The Classic Wood Canoe you purchase from Old Town today is built very much like our first canoes were around the turns of the 20th century.
It's still hand-shaped on the same cedar forms, now more than 100 years old. Still built to the same exacting standards of quality right here in Old Town, Maine. And, though not built by the same artisans, very possibly by someone related to them. Through the years we've employed generation of family members in our plant, the traditions and craftsmanship passed on from fathers to sons.
Our heritage of craftsmanship also lives on in our modern canoes and kayaks. Each is designed and built to the highest, most exacting standards to deliver the finest paddling performance.
Classic Wood
Our heritage: hand shaped on century-old cedar forms and built by artisan builders right here in Old Town, Maine, using techniques handed down for more than 100 years.
Created to meet the exacting needs of Maine guides. Low profile to reduce windage, with a long flat floor to provide plenty of cargo space and a shallow draft. Our top-selling wood canoe.
The iconic look of a classic 1920s-1930s canoe. Long decks, outside stems and oval mahogany gunwales create a frame so strong no thwarts are needed, leaving the entire center of the boat open. A feature that made it popular as a "courting canoe" when first introduced.
Our original "Old Town Canoe Model A," virtually unchanged since it was first offered in 1908.

Stillwater Family
Primary stability is the first consideration with these popular canoes. The fiberglass construction offers handsome design details and the extra large capacity makes the Stillwater well-suited for the family seeking a lighterweight, supremely stable craft.
More speed, enhanced tracking, greater secondary stability, the ability to deal with a variety of paddling conditions, including whitewater, and a large payload make these canoes well-suited to multi-day trips.
Created especially for whitewater tripping, this canoe offers moderate rocker for excellent maneuverability, flared ends for dryness and buoyancy, and a shallow arch for smooth transition from initial to secondary stability when leaning the boat.
The Koru is a modern adaptation of some of our older hunting canoe designs. By adding tumblehome and extending the waterline slightly, the Koru features an efficient hull that can really glide.
