One boat with two distinctly different personalities. Designed to be the quiver of one for the paddler whose appetite for river adventure is a bit more sampler platter than main course. Versatility is the calling card of the Rogue thanks to a hull shape designed to expertly bridge the opposing performance characteristics of being fast on flatwater while nimble in whitewater. Transitioning from light touring down meandering rivers to Class II-III whitewater is this Rogue’s calling card.
The Basics: Jackson Kayak designs have made our whitewater kayaks #1. There is exceptional history behind the craftsmanship of in-house designer Tony Lee. From a materials standpoint, we use the same plastic resin in our touring kayaks as we do for our most hardcore whitewater kayaks. Although this may be considered over-kill, we are proud to offer these materials along with a lifetime warranty on all our recreational and touring kayaks.
The Rogue’s reason for being is to give paddlers a drier, more stable, stronger and supremely comfortable ride for longer treks and overnighters in a diversity of paddling conditions. Attention to detail means the Rogue’s roomy rear hatch will store more than enough gear for multi day excursions. . Jackson Kayak sets the bar very high with the Rogues focus on comfort. The Rogue sports Jackson Kayak’s infinitely adjustable “Sure Lock” back band system, hip pads, thigh pads and ultra comfy SL seating, bringing extended comfort and enjoyment on all your excursions.
What you can expect from the Rogue:
Beginners - A boat that will grow with your skills. Stable, fun and easy to paddle. This kindly Rogue is your best friend when you suddenly find yourself in river conditions a little bumpier than expected and need a boat that will turn on the auto-pilot to keep you upright and smiling. The durability of our plastic will also forgive the new boater for their treatment as they are dragged over rock and sand, and tossed up onto cars.
Intermediates - Confidence-inspiring is one of the chief goals of all Jackson Kayak designs and the Rogue does not disappoint. When you’re ready to test your mettle in tougher whitewater, the Rogue will right there at your side – well actually, under your bottom – to quell any hesitation and let you charge like champion.
Experts - You’re a veteran and with experience comes discriminating taste. You have exacting performance expectations. We do too. We infuse that same championship mentality that makes us world champions in whitewater into the design of every design we make. From best-in-class materials, to ergonomic outfitting, adjustability, aesthetics and speed the Rogue delivers more for the money.

Outfitting
The Rogue’s Outfitting Package is about comfort, control, storage, and versatility.
The hull support track is welded into the kayak, for a secure, “Box Beam” effect, and a great place to secure the seat from sliding forward or back. The seat is adjustable with one single thumbscrew. This thumbscrew supports the front of the seat, but mainly it prevents the seat from sliding forward or back, attached to the hull support. This is the easiest to adjust seat we can make. Remove thumbscrew, slide seat into position, replace thumbscrew. No tools, and no chance for the seat to slide while paddling. That is a big improvement over our system for the “elite seats” in 2011 and in prior years.
The seating system includes our popular whitewater kayak seat shape, with Sweet Cheeks for great control and comfort for all day paddling. Since the boat is taking people on long, fun, days of paddling in many cases, the sweet cheeks helps assure all day comfort with no pressure points, or unsupported areas on your butt. New Water Bottle Holder on the seat. We finally added a water bottle holder to the seats. Double bungee holds a variety of bottle sizes and is easy access. The included JK bottle has a beener that clips to the bungee to secure it.
The Foam components are Black/yellow in color. Hip Pads and adjustments. The hip pads are our most popular shape. We had had 3 shapes since we started JK and this one seems to be the most control and comfort for the most people. To adjust your hip pads properly, sit in the kayak and see if you can easily put your hands in between the hip pads and your hips. If you have room for your hands, add one or two of the 3/8″ foam shims in the neoprene pockets on the backside of the hip pad to create a snug, but not too tight, fit. Place the hip pads on the velcro of the seat in the most comfortable position and tighten the straps to secure in place.
Sure-Lock Backband— Our backband system is one of our most game changing designs for kayak outfitting. Stronger, easier to use, and field reparable make it the “must have” if you want the best. The proper way to adjust is to grab each rope while sitting in the seat, lean forward and pull straight forward with both hands until the backband makes contact to your back, lean back against the backband and it should lock immediately into the cleats, you are done! To release, pull on one or both of the ropes straight out away from the cleat to release completely. This infinitely adjustable backband allows a full loose to tight adjustment in one motion, and also a full release in one motion.
Keeper Footbraces- The Rogue’s foot braces are easy to adjust and have a large range of travel to allow anyone to be tight in the boat and ready for big rapids, or to loosen up and relax. The foot pedal size is small enough to allow you to put your feet past the braces to stretch out easily at any time.
NEW STORAGE FEATURE Design-only in the Rogue- The front wall of the Rogue is easily removable, and it is a short wall with an attachment point for a bow dry bag. This makes loading gear in the bow easy, and provides a ton of extra room for camping trips. No other kayak has this feature, making it the best option for anyone wanting lots of storage capacity.
Large dry hatch for storage- The Rogue has ample stern storage in the dry storage area. A rear Bulkhead keeps water out, and the large hatch provides access to the storage area.
Deck Rigging- For storing extra gear you want quick access to, the deck rigging gives you “at the ready” storage on the bow. Drain Plug- In case you get water in the storage area or want to clean it out, the rear recessed drain plug makes draining that area quick and easy.
“BAM”-( Bolt Action Mechanism)- Drop Skeg- The Rogue is designed for covering ground in flat water as well as whitewater. The BAM Skeg is an easy to operate, at the ready skeg that drops down to assure that the Rogue tracks straight, to make for easy paddling across lakes, bays, or long flat sections of river. A quick push forward and lock into place of the bolt and the skeg is back up for maneuverability.
Grab Handles- The Rogue grab handles are a combination of 1/8″ steel cable and crimps, soft plastic tube insert, with webbing overlay to provide a sturdy, safe, but comfortable, flexible handle.
This boat comes with a drain plug. Should you need to empty out simply remove the drain plug, let it drain and twist it back in.
Our 2012 outfitting for this boat takes comfort, safety, and ease of adjustment to the next level. We hope you enjoy the looks of it as much as the functionality! Boat Armor coupled with the comfort package and it is ready to go for your first river trip!
